Welcome to the future!

You will have opportunities to prepare students for the 21st century as prospective teachers. What role will technology and WEB 2.0 applications, such as blogs, have in the classrooms of future teachers?

The internet has already begun to play a key role in today's classroom. Blogging and the usage of WEB 2.0 will soon be a constant tool used by students in collaboration with their teachers. Using the internet will help streamline homework assignments for teachers as well as conferences with parents. Blogs will bring the accountability to students for their work alleviating miscommunications and lost paperwork. As always there are cons to go along with the pros and the one I can think of is that not all children have the accessibility to a computer. It is still a luxury for so many to have access to the internet and rely on the school or public library for its use. Technology advances constantly and by offering the knowledge to the children early gives them less anxiety over it's fast pace and it eases them into the "real" world at an earlier age. Another role technology will play in the classroom is its ability for children use it as a vehicle in expression. So often children are caught up in the mechanics of writing and with typing onto a blog they will feel freer with their thoughts.

The use of the internet is already such a critical part of our society. And now, with the inclusion of the classroom, the internet is going to be such an innovative tool for teachers, parents, and most importantly students. Students can now see and experience things that they never would have imagined otherwise! It will also help teachers become more organized with grades, projects and minimize the stress of keeping up with grades. Another advantage to having the internet is giving students the opportunity to add extra elements or “flair” in projects, explore a world outside of their classroom and connect with other students by seeing what they are doing. Overall, I think it is a wonderful idea to have the internet as a resource!

I think that the blogs are going to play a significant role with children espically in the classrooms. Internet is developing so fast, and the fact that you are now going to be able to have kids start to use it at such an early age is great. Not only will it be benefical for the students but it can also help with the teachers as well as the parents. It can help the teachers stay organized and not have to keep up with all different assignments. I think that overall it is really going to be benefical for students, teachers and also parents.

Technology will have a huge impact on the classroom by allowing children to get more aquainted with computers and eachother. Using computers will get them ready for the future by introducing them to new software and programs. Blogging is an excellent way for students to comment eachother and read what others have said. I believe it is important for kids to get started early with computers because our technology is advancing everyday. Children who do not get the chance to learn early might be behind and will have a greater chance of having a hard time learning on the computer.

I appreciate all the comments. It is important to begin to think how you will approach technology as part of your instruction and pedagogy. There are some natural concerns, as Tamara pointed out. Equal access for all students is of a particular concern for students living a culture of poverty. Also, issues with safety. The good news is that many companies and colleges, such as the Friday Institute at NCSU, are developing platforms that are private and dedicated to teacher use. The question for technology is no longer WHEN, but rather HOW!!!

Technology and the use of technology is on such an increase that we are more dumbfounded by an individual who does not use it than an individual who does. While it’s uses may seem simple, technology has touched just about every aspect of what we do. We no longer have to focus, click, and wind to take a picture. If we are going to be late to an event, our friends do not have to assume that we are rude, we now have the ability to call them and give them a heads up. Another form of technology that is now a great part of our daily lives is the internet. Just like when someone tells you that they do not have a cell phone or a digital camera, you give them the same gawk of disbelief when they tell you that they don’t have internet in their home. With internet use becoming so easily accessible and in return highly mainstream, everyone is using it. We use it and children everywhere are using it. My nephew is 6 years old and has been playing with learning tools online since he was old enough to reach the necessary keys on the keyboard to power his games. What this means is that even small children are becoming very computer and internet savvy and teachers everywhere need to be ready for them. Involving the use of the internet and other forms of technology in the classroom setting will not only keep the interest of children but will prepare them for future waves of inventions to come. Technology is probably already a great part of most children’s lives and through careful planning and implementing, it can become a great tool for the classroom.
